Queridas familias,

This upcoming week, our students will be engaging in important learning connected to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. Through age-appropriate stories, conversations, activities, and reflection, students will learn about the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, and the importance of listening, learning, and building respectful relationships.

We will also come together for our Orange Shirt Day Assembly on Tuesday, September 29. The story of Orange Shirt Day began with Phyllis Webstad, a Northern Secwépemc woman and residential school Survivor. When Phyllis was six years old, her grandmother bought her a bright orange shirt to wear on her first day at St. Joseph Mission Residential School in British Columbia. When she arrived, her shirt was taken away, and she never got it back. Today, the orange shirt honours Phyllis’s story and the experiences of residential school Survivors, their families, and communities, while reminding us of the enduring message that Every Child Matters.

We look forward to creating space for thoughtful learning, reflection, and conversation throughout the week.

Terry Fox Run

Our annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Tuesday, October 13, from 2:45–3:30 p.m.

Last year, our school community raised an incredible $2,426.82 for the Terry Fox Foundation! This year, our goal is to raise $2,600.

Toonies for Terry: Students can bring in Toonies for Terry donations from September 28 to October 13. Every contribution helps support cancer research and carries forward Terry Fox’s legacy of hope and determination.

Parent Volunteers: Parents interested in volunteering for the Terry Fox Run are invited to contact Srta. Imperadeiro at smimperadeiro@cbe.ab.ca for more information. A Police clearance and annual authorization form are required to volunteer.

Casino Volunteers Needed - November 11 & 12!

Our casino fundraiser raises over $60,000 to support W.O. Mitchell students through residencies, learning resources, technology, and other opportunities!

We need 40 volunteers by Friday, October 30 to help make this important fundraiser a success. A variety of roles are available, food is provided, and no previous casino experience or security clearance is required.

Spanish for Parents – Level 1

Chinook Learning Services is offering Spanish for Parents - Level 1  at Dalhousie School. Learning Spanish can be both easy and fun. This beginning level course will help parents of bilingual Spanish students learn or refresh their Spanish language skills. Parents will become more comfortable interacting with their children in Spanish, build their network of bilingual parents and become familiar with the school environment. Spanish for Parents – Level 1 is currently scheduled for Tuesday evenings, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2026.

Important Notes: Online donations are subject to a third-party service fee. For larger donations, we recommend cheque or offline credit card payment. Donors can use our Donation Form for these options. Tax receipts will be issued:

  • Immediately for online donations
  • Within 6 weeks for offline donations over $100

Traffic Safety Reminder

Please help keep students safe by observing crosswalks, parking rules, and speed limits near the school. Drop-off and pick-up times can be busy, so consider parking a block or two away and walking in. Review safe travel practices with your children, such as using crosswalks and looking both ways before crossing.
