Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year
Get ready for the new year with these key dates and times, school supply lists, and other information.
First Day of Classes
We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Classroom Teacher
Classroom teachers will be sending an introductory email to families on Friday, August 28 at 9:00 a.m. In this email, there will be specific information about the first day of school, including where your child will be meeting their teacher in the morning.
If your child is taking the bus on the first day, staff will meet children at the bus and direct them to their teacher. Please make sure that your child knows what their bus letter is. If you are dropping your child off on the first day, but plan on taking the bus later, please let your child’s teacher know the bus letter. If you are dropping your child off, please say good-bye outside.
Class Lists & Placement Requests
At Escuela W.O. Mitchell, considerable time and care is devoted to creating balanced learning communities that support the academic, social, emotional, and well-being needs of all students. Teachers and school leaders work collaboratively to develop class placements using their professional knowledge of each learner, student input, and the overall needs of the grade level.
As part of this process, students have been invited to identify three classmates who positively support their learning and well-being. Student input is carefully considered, and staff make every effort to ensure that students are placed with at least one of the classmates they identify. While every effort is made to consider student input, specific class placements cannot be guaranteed.
To support a fair, equitable, and thoughtful placement process for all students, the school does not accept parent/guardian requests for specific teachers or specific student placements. We respectfully ask that such requests not be directed to classroom teachers or school administration.
If there is information about your child that may not already be known to the school, or if circumstances have changed and you believe this information may impact your child's learning, well-being, or success in the coming school year, please share this information in writing with Mike Scott, Principal, and Danielle Outhet, Assistant Principal. Information shared will be treated confidentially and considered as part of the student placement process.
We appreciate your partnership and trust as we work together to create supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environments where all students can thrive.

We want to remind families that instructional time goes right until the dismissal bell at 3:50 PM. Students will then be changing their shoes and getting ready to go home. Don’t be alarmed if your child isn’t outside the doors right at 3:50 PM, as they may still be getting ready.
Early Dismissal Fridays | 9:10 AM – 1:20 PM
We want to remind families that on early dismissal Friday’s, the dismissal bell rings at 1:20 PM. Our alternating Kindergarten AM/PM schedule will start on Friday, September 4, 2026, with AM Kindergarten students. No PM Kindergarten class on this day. The schedule for Kindergarten Friday attendance is available on our school calendar.
If your plans have changed and your child will no longer attend W.O. Mitchell, please notify the office as soon as possible, 403-777-6100 ext. 0 or email us at womitchell@cbe.ab.ca.
