Thank You for Supporting Our Terry Fox Run!

A heartfelt thank-you to all our parent volunteers who helped make our Terry Fox Run a success, and to all the students and families who generously donated to support cancer research. Your time, enthusiasm, and generosity helped make this event a meaningful opportunity for our school community to come together in the spirit of Terry Fox’s legacy.

Our goal this year was to raise $2,600, and we are so grateful to everyone who contributed to this important cause. This year we raised $2713.68. Congratulations W.O. Mitchell! Thank you for helping us continue Terry’s Marathon of Hope!

Professional Learning Day | Monday, October 19

A reminder that Monday, October 19, is a non-instructional day. Our teachers will participate in a full day of collaborative professional learning alongside colleagues from four Spanish bilingual schools: W.O. Mitchell, Collingwood, Dalhousie, and Senator Patrick Burns.

Together, teachers will deepen their understanding of Spanish language acquisition pedagogy, with a focus on intentional instructional design that strengthens students' oral language development and literacy outcomes. The afternoon will be dedicated to exploring the new CBE Student Well-Being Framework, considering how we can foster supportive learning environments that strengthen students' sense of belonging, regulation, and resilience. This collaboration reflects our commitment to continuous professional growth and to ensuring that our students benefit from research-informed, responsive teaching practices.

Alberta Education Literacy and Numeracy Screening Assessments

Grade 1- 5 students have completed their Alberta Education screening assessments. If your child was absent during the screening window, they may not have results available for one or more assessments. For more information on these screeners, please refer to the Government of Alberta literacy and numeracy screening.

Individual screening results will be sent home in students' backpacks during the week of October 26. These assessments provide teachers with valuable information about students' developing literacy and numeracy skills. Alongside classroom observations, ongoing assessments, and student work, screening results help teachers identify individual strengths, recognize areas requiring additional support, and plan responsive instruction. By examining this data, teachers can make informed decisions about instructional strategies, targeted interventions, and opportunities for enrichment. These assessments represent one important source of information within a broader picture of each child's learning and growth. We encourage families to review the results and discuss any questions with their child's teacher during our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 26 and 27.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Halloween Reminders

Halloween is just around the corner! As a reminder, our school follows CBE nutrition guidelines and, therefore, candy, treats, and other food items may not be distributed at school. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain healthy school environments for all students.

Students may dress up in costume on October 30. We encourage creativity and fun while ensuring costumes remain appropriate for a school setting. Please remember that costumes must be:

  • Respectful and inclusive of all cultures, identities, and beliefs.
  • Free of masks that cover the face.
  • Free of weapons or weapon replicas.
  • Free of violent, graphic, or gory themes

We look forward to seeing our students showcase their creativity and school spirit!
