Queridas familias,

As we prepare to welcome students back for the 2026–27 school year, I hope you and your children are as excited as we are to begin another year of learning, friendship, and growth at Escuela W.O. Mitchell.

The beginning of a new school year can bring both excitement and nervousness. During these first weeks, our staff will focus on building strong relationships, establishing classroom routines, and creating welcoming and supportive learning environments where every student feels known, valued, and a strong sense of belonging. These relationships provide an important foundation for student learning, well-being, and success throughout the year.

Strong partnerships between home and school are also essential to student success. If you have questions, concerns, or information that may help us better understand and support your child, please connect directly with your child's teacher. We value your knowledge of your child and look forward to working alongside you throughout the year.

We are fortunate to have an exceptional team of teachers and support staff who are excited to welcome students and committed to creating welcoming, engaging, and caring, learning experiences.

As a Spanish Bilingual school, we also encourage families to celebrate the growth you see in your child's Spanish language development throughout the year. We look forward to seeing our students take risks, build confidence, and continue to develop their ability to communicate and learn in both Spanish and English.

Thank you for your trust, partnership, and ongoing support. We are excited to welcome our students and families back and look forward to another wonderful year of learning and growing together.

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2026–27!

Class Size Reduction Grant

This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants and other school staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta with the intention of addressing classroom complexity and class sizes.

We are pleased to welcome Sra. Andrea Garcia to our school for the 2026-27 school year. Sra. Andrea Garcia will be joining the Grade 3 & 4 team. Sr. Garcia will teach 0.5 Literacy & Numeracy to Grade 3 students in the afternoons and 0.5 Literacy & Numeracy to Grade 4 students in the mornings. Each grade grouping will benefit from smaller class sizes in their Literacy and Numeracy blocks

Playground Fundraising

Upcoming Bottle Drive: W.O. Mitchell School Council will be collecting bottles and cans from September 8-11. We invite families to consider donating their refundable items in support of our Playground Fundraising Campaign. A trailer will be on-site at the school to accept donations.

Traffic Safety Reminder

Please help keep students safe by observing crosswalks, parking rules, and speed limits near the school. Drop-off and pick-up times can be busy, so consider parking a block or two away and walking in. Review safe travel practices with your children, such as using crosswalks and looking both ways before crossing. Learn more at Calgary.ca/BeSafe.

Administrative Regulations:

Administrative Regulations (ARs) are the set of rules, expectations, and guidelines identified by the chief superintendent that support and align the operation of the CBE.  Schools are asked to share 3 ARs with families at the beginning of each year: AR 6031, which speaks to the roles and expectations in sustaining a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning and work environment for all; AR 6006, which addresses progressive student discipline, and AR 6005, which speaks to the roles and expectations related to student conduct.
