Queridas familias,

We have had an amazing week at WOM. First, thank you to all the volunteers who assisted us for our Terry Fox Run on Monday. I am happy to report that we reached our funding goal of $2500! As well, it was a pleasure to meet and greet many of you during our Meet the Teacher Event last night. We had an excellent turn out and families were happy to connect with their teachers and with other families.

Spanish for Parents

Chinook Learning Services offers courses specifically designed for parents and caregivers of CBE Spanish Bilingual students. For Fall 2023, Chinook Learning Services is once again offering Spanish for Parents – Level 1 classes. This eight-week course will help parents of bilingual students learn or refresh their Spanish language skills, build their network of bilingual parents, and support their children’s learning at home.

This course would also be beneficial for any Support Staff who are interested in learning along with parents!

Chinook Learning Services has successfully offered Spanish For Parents Level 1 in the past.

Fun Lunches

The next Fun Lunch will take place on September 25 from Coco Brooks.

Orange Shirt Day

On September 28, we will acknowledge Orange Shirt Day, and students will participate in classroom activities related to Indigenous Education and Reconciliation. We encourage students to wear an orange shirt, or their favourite shirt for the day. Please remember that there is no school of Friday September 29.

Picture Day

Picture Day is coming on October 3. We are looking for volunteers to help with ushering students throughout the day from approximately 9:10 am – 1:30 pm. If you are available to help, please contact the main office at 403 777 6100.

School Absences

Please remember to call the attendance line to let us know of your student’s absence – 403 777 6100 ext. 1. This not only helps us as we complete daily attendance, but is also a security concern in the case of emergencies. Just a gentle reminder to keep your students home if they are not feeling well.

WO Mitchell School Council

WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting will be taking place on October 24 at 7pm.
