Queridas familias,

It has been a wonderful week at WO Mitchell. I have had the pleasure of visiting many classrooms and experience the learning that is taking place in each classroom. As Fall starts to settle, remember to send your students with weather appropriate clothing.

Terry Fox Run

Terry Fox Run will take place on September 18 from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (weather and air quality permitting). Parents interested in volunteering for the event, please contact Srta. Imperadeiro (smimperadeiro@cbe.ab.ca ) for details.

So far we have raised $726. Our goal this year is to raise $2500. We will be collecting Toonies for Terry from students until September 18.

Meet the Teacher Evening

Please join us on September 21 at 6:00 pm for our annual Meet the Teacher evening. This is an informal opportunity to meet your homeroom teachers and build community at the school. We will briefly meet in the gym for a quick introduction, and then you can walk around the school to meet your teacher. This year, the School Council will be providing cookies for the event. At 7:00 pm, you are invited to stay for the School Council and Parent Society AGM.

Teacher Communication and Curriculum Newsletters

Over the year, teachers will communicate with families consistently so that parents can support their students at home. Please ensure that your contact information is updated with the school to ensure that you receive your teacher’s communications. Teachers’ Curriculum Newsletters will be sent home via email late next week. Please look out for these!

IPP Conferences

On September 22, teachers will hold initial Parent – Teacher Conferences for students who have an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) in order to talk to you about the plan for this upcoming year. Please note that teachers will reach out to you to book a time between 8:30 am and 1:00 pm.

Fun Lunches

The next Fun Lunch will take place on September 25 from Coco Brooks. Please note that the cut off to order will be Wednesday September 20. If you are a new parent to Healthy Hunger, the instructions to order are attached under Resources. Link: Healthy Hunger.

Orange Shirt Day

On August 28, we will acknowledge Orange Shirt Day, and students will participate in classroom activities related to Indigenous Education and Reconciliation. We encourage students to wear an orange shirt, or their favourite shirt for the day.

Picture Day

Picture Day is coming on October 3. We are looking for volunteers to help with ushering students throughout the day from approximately 9:10 am – 1:30 pm. If you are available to help, please contact the main office at 403 777 6100.

School Absences

Please remember to call the attendance line to let us know of your student’s absence – 403 777 6100 ext. 1. This not only helps us as we complete daily attendance, but is also a security concern in the case of emergencies. Just a gentle reminder to keep your students home if they are not feeling well.

WO Mitchell School Council

WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting will be the AGM, which will take place on September 21 at 7pm.
