Queridas familias,

As the weather continues to change and winter arrives, please make sure that your student is dressed for the weather.  Students will continue to go outside unless it is raining hard, or the temperature is below -20 degrees.

Halloween Day

On Tuesday October 31, we will host our Halloween day at school.  Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school.  Please remember, no weapons (swords, knives, guns, etc.) are allowed in the school, even if they are part of the whole costume.  As well, please do not send candy to school, even as a snack for students.  Students are able to learn and focus better when they have a nutritious meal.

Veteran’s Food Drive

As we begin preparing for Remembrance Day over the next few weeks, W.O. Mitchell school will be collecting donations for the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary from October 31st to November 8. We would appreciate any donations of non-perishable food and household items. The Veterans Food Bank is also accepting gift cards for grocery stores of $25/$50. Families can drop off any gift card donations at the office.

Remembrance Day

We will be acknowledging Remembrance Day on November 8.  The school will host an assembly in the gym at 10:45 am. Students who are members of organizations such as: Scouts, Brownies, Girl Guides, Cadets, etc. are welcome to wear their uniforms and be part of the Colour Guard.  As well, if you have a member of your family who is a member of the armed forces (past or present), and wish to send a photo to be part of the assembly, please send a copy to the office.  Please do not send the original one, as we don’t want it to get ruined.

Volunteers for Tennis Residency

Our tennis residency has started, and it’s off to a great start.  Thank you to the parents who have volunteered this week.  It has been great to see many of you helping in the gym. If you have security clearance and are able to help out, please go to the Signup Genius link, where you will find time slots set up according to the class schedule. Thank you to our wonderful school council for financially supporting this program!

Student Pick-Up

We understand that plans change and that sometimes parents run late when picking up their students.  To ensure the security and safety of our students, we ask that you let the office know if you are running late or you have made arrangements with a family friend.  We can only release students to individuals that are listed in our system or through an email to: womitchell@cbe.ab.ca  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Fun Lunches

The next Fun Lunch will take place on October 31 from Subway. Your last day to order was Thursday October 26.

School Absences

Please remember to call the attendance line to let us know of your student’s absence – 403 777 6100 ext. 1.  This not only helps us as we complete daily attendance, but is also a security concern in the case of emergencies.  Just a gentle reminder to keep your student home if they are not feeling well.

WO Mitchell School Council 

WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com  The next meeting will be taking place on November 21 at 7pm.  This will be a hybrid meeting with the option to attend in person or online via Microsoft Teams.
