With just under two weeks until summer break, students are enjoying their last in-class activities for the year and getting ready to present in our annual school-based student showcase.
Water Main Break and Swimming
On the evening of Wednesday, June 5 an extensive water main break occurred in the community of Bowness. Unfortunately, with the extensive time needed to complete the repairs and getting service back to normal, the City has cancelled all school swimming lessons for the rest of the school year. We thank all volunteers who were ready to take the time to join us, and thank you all for your understanding.

Sports Day - June 21
We will be holding our annual Sports Day on June 21, 2024. We will begin Sports Day activities at 9:30 AM. The event will end at 1:00 PM. This year’s theme will be Favourite Sports Teams. We encourage all students to wear their favourite sports team’s jersey, t-shirt, hat, or colours for the event. We are looking for 5 volunteers from each classroom to volunteer for the event. Volunteers will work in shifts of 30 minutes to 1 hour. All volunteers require a Police Check. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if interested in volunteering by June 19.
School Council will be providing a snack for students during Sports Day. A station will be set up for students to receive their special snack. We invite any volunteers who would be able to assist with setting up the snack station and passing out snacks to contact School Council for more information here: womparents@gmail.com

Modular Units Removal
Alberta Education approved funding for the demolition of two modular classrooms at W. O. Mitchell School in March 2023 due to their poor condition. Demolition of the modulars reduces expensive recurring operating expenses (i.e., heat, electricity and maintenance). This summer, CBE will proceed with the demolitions. Safety measures will be taken to ensure the safety of students and community members who use the playground or school site while demolition occurs. This includes enclosing the area from the public and operating within specific hours according to municipal bylaws. The work is anticipated to be completed by mid-September 2024. To ensure student safety during the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, precautions will be taken. This includes enclosing the construction area and working around school hours to avoid disrupting learning. If you have any questions about this work, you may email accommodation@cbe.ab.ca.
Garden of Wonder
The Garden of Wonder Committee is organizing a cleanup of the Garden on Saturday June 15 at 10 AM. Please plan to come out and help. Make sure you bring garden gloves and weeding tools!
Lost and Found
As we approach the end of the school year, please encourage your student to check the lost and found tables. Items will not be available after June 27.
Lunchroom and Field Trips Fees
Parents, please be aware that the noon supervision registration is open. If your student stays at school over the lunch program, please register using MyCBE. As well, all school-based fees will be populated in this portal as events happen. Please take note of the fees to pay them in a timely manner.
Fun Lunches
The next Fun Lunch will take place on June 17 from Edo Japan.
WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting will be taking place on June 18 at 7 PM. This will be a hybrid meeting in person and via Microsoft Teams.
Last day of School
Our last day of classes will be June 27, 2024. Please note that this day will follow a Friday schedule and students will be dismissed at 1:20 PM.
