Queridas familias,
I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! It has been a wonderful to see all of our students after the break. Hopefully, you are managing to stay warm in this cold weather!
Kindergarten and Grade 1 Registration
Our Kindergarten and Grade 1 registration opens on January 15, 2024. Our current Kindergarten students do not need to re-register. If you know of families who are looking for a Spanish Bilingual school, please let them know to check out our webpage for more information.
Cold Weather
As we go through this cold spell, it is a good time to remind families to send their students to school with winter appropriate clothing. Students will have outdoor recess when temperatures are above -20 degrees Celsius including wind chill. While we do have some loaner items, we do not have many or varied sizes for our students to use.
Gymnastics
Students will start their gymnastics unit next week. A letter will be sent home today outlining expectations for the following two weeks. For this time, please ensure that your student is dressed appropriately for the type of activities and please refrain from wearing jewelry.
Chinook Learning Services
Chinook Learning Services offers courses specifically designed for parents and caregivers of CBE Spanish Bilingual students. For Winter 2024, Chinook Learning Services is once again offering Spanish for Parents – Level 1 classes. This eight-week course will help parents of bilingual students learn or refresh their Spanish language skills, build their network of bilingual parents and support their children’s learning at home.

Science Fair and Judges
Students in Grade 4 and 5 have been working on their Science Fair Projects. The fair will take place Thursday, February 1 at 5:30pm at the school. For this event, we will need the support of parent volunteers to participate as judges. You do not have to have a child in the Science Fair to volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering as a judge in our Science Fair, there will be a brief meeting on Thursday, January 25 at 5:30pm in the Learning Commons. If you would like to participate, please contact Señora Eileen Abad at erabad@cbe.ab.ca.
Lunchroom and Field Trips Fees
Parents, please be aware that the lunch supervision registration is now open. If your student stays at school over the lunch program, please register with MyCBE As well, all school-based fees will be populated in this portal as events happen. Please take note of the fees to pay them in a timely manner.
Fun Lunches
The next Fun Lunch will take place on January 16 from Waffles & Chix.
WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting will be taking place on January 23 at 7pm. This will be an online meeting via Microsoft Teams. The Grade 2 team will be presenting for this meeting.
With gratitude,
Erick Noriega,
Principal
