Te Gustaria Saber? 11-15 | Terry Fox, Meet the Teacher, Conferences, Fun Lunches, Dates, etc
Queridas familias,
I hope you had the opportunity to have new adventures and to rest over the summer break. As we begin the month of September, it is my pleasure you welcome you back to the new school year! It was wonderful to welcome families yesterday and to feel the excitement of students as I visited classrooms. We look forward to an amazing school year full of learning and growth!
Terry Fox Run
Terry Fox Run will take place on September 18th from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (weather and air quality permitting). Parents interested in volunteering for the event, please contact Srta. Imperadeiro (smimperadeiro@cbe.ab.ca ) for details.
Last year we raised an amazing $2337.95 for the Terry Fox organization. Our goal this year is to raise $2500. We will be collecting Toonies for Terry from students starting on September 7 until September 18.
Online donations can also be made to the Terry Fox organization through the School Webpage link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/30181
Meet the Teacher Evening
Please join us on September 21 at 6:00 pm for our annual Meet the Teacher evening. This is an informal opportunity to meet your homeroom teachers and build community at the school. We will briefly meet in the gym for a quick introduction, and then you can walk around the school to meet your teacher. This year, the School Council will be providing cookies for the event. At 7:00 pm, you are invited to stay for the School Council and Parent Society AGM.
IPP Conferences
On September 22, teachers will hold initial Parent – Teacher Conferences for students who have an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) in order to talk to you about the plan for this upcoming year. Please note that teachers will reach out to you to book a time between 8:30 am and 1:00 pm.
Fun lunches
Every year our school council supports the purchase of fun lunches for families who would not otherwise be able to participate. If your child would benefit from this, please contact Liz Styan lmstyan@cbe.ab.ca. Students get their choice from the menu and the order is placed for them.
AMA school patrols
We will once again be offering the patroller program for grade 5 students. This is a significant leadership opportunity for our students and last years’ group had a lot of fun! Once training is complete you will see teams operating at the crosswalk near the playground at Silverstone Place before and after school. Starting next week students will be introduced to the program and given the opportunity to sign up. More information will be available to grade 5 parents soon.
Apple Fundraiser
Our parent council has begun their first fundraiser of the year (Apple Fundraiser with apples from Davison Orchard). I had the opportunity to try them last year and they were amazing! All order forms have been sent home with your students today and the due date to order is September 18. A digital copy is attached here as well. Pick up is scheduled for October 4, 2023.
School Absences
Please remember to call the attendance line to let us know of your student’s absence – 403 777 6100 ext. 1. This not only helps us as we complete daily attendance, but is also a security concern in the case of emergencies. Just a gentle reminder to keep your students home if they are not feeling well.
Brown Bagging
W.O. Mitchell School participates in the Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids program, which is a charitable organization that provides a simple snack and lunch delivered to the school at no charge. If your family would benefit from this program please contact Liz Styan lmstyan@cbe.ab.ca. Continue to send food with your child until you receive confirmation that your child is included in the program. If you would like to know more about BB4CK visit their web site at https://bb4ck.org/
WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com
With gratitude,
Erick Noriega,
Principal
