Queridas familias,

It has been a busy week for our students, in particular our Grade 3 students as they prepare for their Que Pasa performance.

Que Pasa

On Tuesday May 6, 2025, our grade 3 students have been invited to perform at Que Pasa, a collaborative Calgary Board of Education, International Spanish Academies Fine Arts Gala at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. This unique experience will allow our students to share Spanish performances in a professional setting to a full house of families from across the city.  The performances will include all Spanish Bilingual program schools from elementary to high school! The audience will be treated to various choral, band music, dance and other performances that celebrate the beauty of the Hispanic language and culture. This event will be an exceptional opportunity for all.  The performance will begin at 1 pm.

Tickets for the event will be offered to families at $18.00. Please note that young children cannot sit on laps and must hold a valid ticket to enter the Jubilee Auditorium. As there will be over 650 students performing at the event, limited seating will be available. Performers/Volunteers do not require a ticket. Families must create a Ticketmaster Account prior to purchasing the tickets.

You can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster using the link below:

Please note that students will not have transportation back to school.  Parents/Guardians will need to pick up their student from the Jubilee Auditorium.

Swimming

Our grade 1 and 2 students will be going to Sir Winston Churchill swimming pool as part of their PE programming from Monday May 5 – Thursday May 8, and May 12.  To facilitate the process, please ensure that your student has their swim suit on and they bring a change of underwear for after the lesson.  We need male volunteers.  If you are able to volunteer please reach out to your homeroom teacher.

Extra Clothing

As we venture into Spring, rain (and snow) is coming down more often.  Please make sure that you pack some extra clothing if your child gets wet, especially socks.

School Spirit Wear

We are happy to announce that we have Spirit Wear with our new logo available to purchase through our school website. For more information, please visit:

We have been able to acquire a few samples for sizing.  If you would like to try a sample before ordering, please visit the office.  The turn-around time from order to picking up or sending the order is around 3 weeks.

Families have the option of pick up “in store” or pick up at the school.

Fun Lunch

The next Fun Lunch will take place on May 12 from Mucho Burrito.  Please note that orders will close 5 days before the date.

Volunteer Tea

Save the date! We will be hosting our annual Volunteer Tea on Wednesday June 11 at 2 pm.

WO Mitchell School Council

WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com  The next meeting for School Council and the Parent Society will take place on May 20, 2025 at 7pm.  At this time, we are planning a hybrid meeting (in person and online). The Grade 1 team will be presenting during this meeting.

With gratitude,

Erick Noriega,

Principal
