It has been a busy week at WOM - Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with the Grade 1, 3 and 5 field trips to took place this week!
Jump Rope for Heart
This week we raised $700. Our goal is to raise $2000 by June 20. We have struck a deal with Sr. Noriega, if we surpass our goal and raise $2500, then we will get a Dunk Tank on the day of the event and dunk him in it. Let’s make it happen!
We accept Cash donations along with Cheques (made payable to W.O. Mitchell School). Families who would like a tax receipt, please contact the office so we can take note of your request. Online donations can be made through the website: https://jumpropeforheart.crowdchange.ca/81777
Each week we will have a goal of raising $500 with fun Spirit Booster Activities.

- May 23: PJ Day
- May 30: Super Snack Picnic Outside (bring beach towels)
- June 6: Crazy Hair Day
- June 13: Heart Display (Art activity)
- June 19: Wear Red to support Heart & Stroke
- June 20: Inside Out Day (mismatched clothing, inside out etc.)
On June 20 we will come together as a school to celebrate Jump Rope for Heart in combination with Sports day.
You're Invited: Family Fiesta at W. O. Mitchell School!
Join us for a fun-filled evening of music, dancing, and community at the W. O. Mitchell School Society's Family Fiesta on Thursday, June 5 from 5:00–7:00 PM! Bring the whole family to enjoy lively tunes, festive vibes, and great company.
Weather permitting, we invite you to bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic on the school grounds—the perfect way to soak in the summer spirit. Additional details and registration information to come.

Spanish Music Residency | Armonía familiar: Un canto al amor eterno
May 28-June 2, 2025
Starting on Monday, May 28, W. O. Mitchell students will be engaged in a musical collaboration with Mexican singer-songwriter Paloma Negra and Colombian multidisciplinary artist-producer Fredy Rivas. Through music, students will celebrate the value of family in all their forms and collaborate on the composition of a song and music video.
Parents/Guardians are invited to attend a performance by Paloma Negra and students on Monday, June 2 at:
- 11:15am-11:45am | AM Kindergarten & Grade 1-2
- 1:15pm-1:45pm | PM Kindergarten & Grade 3-5
A special thank you to School Council for funding this unique Spanish residency.
Extra Clothing
As we venture into Spring, rain (and snow) is coming down more often. Please make sure that you pack some extra clothing if your child gets wet, especially socks.

School Spirit Wear
We are happy to announce that we have Spirit Wear with our new logo available to purchase through our school website. For more information, please visit our Merchandise page.
We have been able to acquire a few samples for sizing. If you would like to try a sample before ordering, please visit the office. The turn-around time from order to picking up or sending the order is around 3 weeks.
Families have the option of pick up “in store” or pick up at the school.
Volunteer Tea
Save the date! We will be hosting our annual Volunteer Tea on Wednesday June 11 at 2 pm.
Fun Lunch
The next Fun Lunch will take place on June 16 from Spolumbo’s. Please note that orders will close 5 days before the date.
Parent Education Session
The school council at WOM is excited to provide an opportunity for parents to learn about literacy and supporting their students at home. We will be hosting a virtual event on May 28 at 6pm.

Karen Filewych has over twenty-five years of educational experience as an elementary teacher, school administrator, and language arts consultant. In 2007, she completed her Master of Education degree in the area of literacy. She is the author of four Pembroke titles, her latest being Literacy Instruction Matters. WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting for School Council and the Parent Society will take place on Jube 17, 2025 at 7pm. Currently, we are planning an in-person meeting with a location to be determined. More information will be shared closer to the meeting.
