Queridas familias,

I hope you have had a fantastic week.

Intent to Return Forms

To better help us understand how many students we will have in the 2025-26 school year, we are asking families to complete a Microsoft Form to share with us your intent for the next school year.  Please ensure that this form is completed by January 16, 2025.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 Registration

Our Kindergarten and Grade 1 registration opened on January 13, 2025.  Our current KG students do not need to re-register.  If you know of families who are looking for a Spanish Bilingual school, please let them know to check out our webpage for more information.

Gymnastics

Students will start their gymnastics unit next week.  A letter will be sent home today outlining expectations for the following two weeks.  For this time, please ensure that your student is dressed appropriately for the type of activities and please refrain from wearing jewelry.

Drop-Off and Pick Up

Please remember to follow the rules of the road when dropping off your students.  We have noticed an increase in students jaywalking across the street.  In addition, parents please remember to respect the bus areas and the handicap zones.  Parents cannot stop in those areas.  As well, please be respectful of our neighbours and their driveways.  Please do not block private driveways.  Finally, please do not use the parking lot for drop off and pick up.  This poses a safety risk for students and staff.

Science Fair Judges and Volunteers

Students in grade 4 and 5 are currently working on their Science Fair projects. The fair will take place Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 5:30pm at the school. For this event we need the support of parent volunteers to participate as judges. No experience is required and you can be a judge even if you have a child participating (you will not be judging them). If you are interested in participating as a judge in our science fair please contact Sra. Brittney Ferkranus at BrFerkranus@cbe.ab.ca.

Chinook Learning Services

Chinook Learning Services offers courses specifically designed for parents and caregivers of CBE Spanish Bilingual students. For Winter 2025, Chinook Learning Services is offering Spanish for Parents – Level 1.

This eight-week course will help parents of bilingual students learn or refresh their Spanish language skills, build their network of bilingual parents, and support their children’s learning at home.

Check out the course description at Spanish For Parents Level 1

Lunchroom and Field Trips Fees

At this time, only a fraction of parents who use the lunchroom supervision program have paid their fees.  Please ensure that you log into https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html in order to pay your fees.   As well, all school-based fees will be populated in this portal as events happen.  Please take note of the fees to pay them in a timely manner.

We are happy to announce that we have Spirit Wear with our new logo available to purchase through our school website. For more information, please visit:

We have been able to acquire a few samples for sizing.  If you would like to try a sample before ordering, please visit the office.  The turn-around time from order to picking up or sending the order is around 3 weeks.

Families have the option of pick up “in store” or pick up at the school.

Fun Lunch

The next Fun Lunch will take place on January 27 from Subway.  Please note that orders will close 5 days before the date.

WO Mitchell School Council

WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com  The next meeting for School Council and the Parent Society will take place on Jan. 21, 2025 at 7pm.  This will be an online meeting via Microsoft Teams. The Grade 4 team will be presenting during this meeting.

With gratitude,

Erick Noriega,

Principal
