Queridas familias
I hope you have managed to stay warm during this frigid week!
Teachers’ Convention and Family Day
Just a reminder that Teachers’ Convention will be held on February 13 and 14 and students will not have school on those days. In addition, Monday February 17 is Family Day. We welcome students back to school on Tuesday February 18.
Casino Time!
Biennial casinos raise over $60,000 that goes directly towards W.O.M. teacher residencies, student experiences, school resources, and technology. To successfully run our casino and claim these funds, we need 40 volunteers to commit to a variety of shifts by February 28th. Food is included and no previous experience is necessary. Sign-up and meet new people, sign-up with friends and make it an event, or sign-up with your spouse to make it a date night!
When: Friday, March 14 & Saturday, March 15
Where: Cowboys Casino (218 18 Street SE)
Sign-up to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0C4CADA722A3FC1-54530731-casino

Kindergarten and Grade 1 Registration
Registration for Kindergarten and Grade 1 closes on February 11 at noon. If you know of any families that are interested in the bilingual setting, please let them know that we are accepting registrations.
WO Mitchell Read-A-Thon
From February 3-17, School Council is hosting a Read-A-Thon to encourage a love of reading and support the Learning Commons! Each grade level will have reading goals and any kind of reading at home counts - listening to books too! Packages and information was sent home this week. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact womparents@gmail.com
Drop-Off and Pick Up
Please remember to follow the rules of the road when dropping off your students. We have noticed an increase in students jaywalking across the street. In addition, parents please remember to respect the bus areas and the handicap zones. Parents cannot stop in those areas. As well, please be respectful of our neighbours and their driveways. Please do not block private driveways. Finally, please do not use the parking lot for drop off and pick up. This poses a safety risk for students and staff.
Chinook Learning Services
Fee: $309 per person or $429 per couple
Continue building your confidence in Spanish to better support your child’s language learning! This course is designed for parents who have a basic understanding of Spanish and want to expand their communication skills in everyday situations. Through interactive activities, listening exercises, and guided conversations, you will strengthen your vocabulary and improve your ability to understand and speak Spanish with your child at home. Offered at Dalhousie School.
Lunchroom and Field Trips Fees
At this time, only a fraction of parents who use the lunchroom supervision program have paid their fees. Please ensure that you log into MyCBE in order to pay your fees. As well, all school-based fees will be populated in this portal as events happen. Please take note of the fees to pay them in a timely manner.

WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting for School Council and the Parent Society will take place on Feb. 18, 2025 at 7pm.
