Queridas familias
It was wonderful to see many of you this week attending our Winter Musical. Our students did an amazing job, and we are grateful to all of you for your continued support with these events.
Holiday Hampers
As the holidays approach, we are conscious that we have families in our communities that have experienced financial struggles over the year. If you are a family who could benefit from a Holiday Hamper this coming holiday season, please send a message to Sr. Noriega to let the school know. Please know that this information will be kept confidential and only the numbers of families in need will be shared with our school council executive. Teachers will also share names of families that they believe would benefit. As it has been done in the past, I will contact families to determine if they would like the assistance.
For the Holiday Hampers we will be accepting food gift cards from any supermarket of your choice to help the many families in need this year. We will also accept cash donations so that we can purchase gift cards with those funds. We will be accepting your donations from November 25 – December 13. Again, thank you so much for your continued support towards helping others in need.
Message from Ms. Harker (Book Fair)
Many thanks to our WO Mitchell community for all their support for another successful Scholastic Book Fair. We appreciate it so much! Happy Holidays!
Handbell Concert
On December 17 Grade 5 students will be holding their annual handbell concert at 2pm. Families as welcome to attend.
Drop-Off and Pick Up
Please remember to follow the rules of the road when dropping off your students. We have noticed an increase in students jaywalking across the street. In addition, parents please remember to respect the bus areas and the handicap zones. Parents cannot stop in those areas. As well, please be respectful of our neighbours and their driveways. Please do not block private driveways. Finally, please do not use the parking lot for drop off and pick up. This poses a safety risk for students and staff.
Science Fair Judges and Volunteers
Students in grade 4 and 5 are currently working on their Science Fair projects. The fair will take place Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 5:30pm at the school. For this event we need the support of parent volunteers to participate as judges. No experience is required and you can be a judge even if you have a child participating (you will not be judging them). If you are interested in participating as a judge in our science fair please contact Sra. Brittney Ferkranus at BrFerkranus@cbe.ab.ca.
Lunchroom and Field Trips Fees
At this time, only a fraction of parents who use the lunchroom supervision program have paid their fees. Please ensure that you log into MyCBE in order to pay your fees. As well, all school-based fees will be populated in this portal as events happen. Please take note of the fees to pay them in a timely manner.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found tables continue to grow. Please take some time to ensure that your student has all of their belongings and if they are missing something to check the lost and found. Items will be available until the morning of December 19 at which time they will be donated.
School Spirit Wear
We are happy to announce that we have Spirit Wear with our new logo available to purchase through our school website. For more information, please visit our Merchandise page.
We have been able to acquire a few samples for sizing. If you would like to try a sample before ordering, please visit the office. The turn-around time from order to picking up or sending the order is around 3 weeks.
Families have the option of pick up “in store” or pick up at the school. Please note that orders need to be in by December 2 to guarantee completion before the Winter Break.
Fun Lunch
The next Fun Lunch will take place on December 19 from Opa! Please note that orders will close 5 days before the date.
WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting for School Council and the Parent Society will take place on Jan. 21, 2025 at 7pm. This will be an online meeting via Microsoft Teams. The Grade 4 team will be presenting during this meeting.
With gratitude,
Erick Noriega,
Principal
