Queridas familias
It has been really nice to catch up with families and students after the break. I’m happy to hear that many of you had the opportunity to rest and relax over the week. Thank you so much to the volunteers who helped with the Spulumbo's and Purdy's orders yesterday as well. Your time and assistance are very much appreciated!

Yearbook - 'Great Adventures' , 'Grandes Aventuras'
The yearbook cover contest is back! The theme this year is "Great Adventures / Grandes Aventuras". Students can submit their best creations before April 11. We love seeing our students' entries and where creativity can take them.
"Great Adventures" means to find the fun and good side of what we pursue and do in life and even in our every day.
Ask your kids to think about something they really love, or something they have overcome that makes them very proud, or even some challenges they may have encountered and turned it into a great adventure. It could also be something that they plan on doing in the future, something that motivates them and that will keep the adventure going in their lives.
Encourage them to capture those moments in a drawing and submit the drawing to our yearbook cover contest before April 11.
Spring Musical
The Spring Musical will take place on April 16 at 2 PM and 7 PM. Students in grades 3-5 will be performing. Families are welcome to attend one of the two performances in order to use our space effectively. Families are invited to bring in a non-perishable item of food for the Food Bank.
Dia del Libro
We are excited to celebrate Día del Libro (World Book Day) at W. O. Mitchell on April 23. Día del Libro is organized by UNESCO and widely observed in Spain and in Latin America to promote reading, publishing, and widespread access to books. The date holds important value in the world of literature as it coincides with the date that illustrious literary figures such as Cervantes, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, P.L. Traves, and Shakespeare passed away.
On April 23, students will participate in a full day of festivities to inspire the joy of reading. In addition to grade-level activities, students will participate in an assembly to learn about the Legend of Sant Jordi, a Catalan celebration that coincides with Día del Libro. Students will also attend the Feria del Libro (Book Fair), which will be organized as a book swap. Student donors will receive a token that can be redeemed against any book at the fair.
To make this a success, we invite students to donate books to the office from April 3-22. Book donations should be:
- Appropriate and engaging for K-5 readers
- Gently used, good quality
Finally, we invite all students to dress up as their favourite book character to build school spirit and inspire a culture of reading at W. O. Mitchell.
We are looking for 5 volunteers to assist with the event. If you have your clearance and are interested in helping us on this day, please contact Eve Moreau at ekmoreau@cbe.ab.ca.

WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting for School Council and the Parent Society will take place on April 8, 2025 at 7pm. At this time, we are planning a hybrid meeting (in person and online). The Grade 3 team will be presenting during this meeting.
