Queridas familias,
Thank you to all of you who were able to attend our dance showcase this afternoon. Students have worked hard over the last few weeks and were proud to share their dance moves with you.
Spring Musical
The Spring Musical will take place on April 16 at 2 PM and 7 PM. Students in grades 3-5 will be performing. Families are welcome to attend one of the two performances in order to use our space effectively. Families are invited to bring in a non-perishable item of food for the Food Bank.
Dia del Libro
We are excited to celebrate Día del Libro (World Book Day) at W. O. Mitchell on April 23. Día del Libro is organized by UNESCO and widely observed in Spain and in Latin America to promote reading, publishing, and widespread access to books. The date holds important value in the world of literature as it coincides with the date that illustrious literary figures such as Cervantes, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, P.L. Traves, and Shakespeare passed away.
On April 23, students will participate in a full day of festivities to inspire the joy of reading. In addition to grade-level activities, students will participate in an assembly to learn about the Legend of Sant Jordi, a Catalan celebration that coincides with Día del Libro. Students will also attend the Feria del Libro (Book Fair), which will be organized as a book swap. Student donors will receive a token that can be redeemed against any book at the fair.
To make this a success, we invite students to donate books to the office from April 3-22. Book donations should be:
- Appropriate and engaging for K-5 readers
- Gently used, good quality
Finally, we invite all students to dress up as their favourite book character to build school spirit and inspire a culture of reading at W. O. Mitchell.
We are looking for 5 volunteers to assist with the event. If you have your clearance and are interested in helping us on this day, please contact Eve Moreau at ekmoreau@cbe.ab.ca.

Que Pasa
On Tuesday May 6, 2025, our grade 3 students have been invited to perform at Que Pasa, a collaborative Calgary Board of Education, International Spanish Academies Fine Arts Gala at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. This unique experience will allow our students to share Spanish performances in a professional setting to a full house of families from across the city. The performances will include all Spanish Bilingual program schools from elementary to high school! The audience will be treated to various choral, band music, dance and other performances that celebrate the beauty of the Hispanic language and culture. This event will be an exceptional opportunity for all. The performance will begin at 1 pm.
Tickets for the event will be offered to families at $18.00. Please note that young children cannot sit on laps and must hold a valid ticket to enter the Jubilee Auditorium. As there will be over 650 students performing at the event, limited seating will be available. Performers/Volunteers do not require a ticket. Families must create a Ticketmaster Account prior to purchasing the tickets.
You can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.

WO Mitchell School Council
WO Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to womparents@gmail.com The next meeting for School Council and the Parent Society will take place on May 20, 2025 at 7pm. At this time, we are planning a hybrid meeting (in person and online). The Grade 2 team will be presenting during this meeting.
With gratitude,
Erick Noriega,
