May 14 Parent Presentation: Online Safety

The WOM school council would like to invite you to attend a one hour virtual session called Online Safety: Generation Alpha. The session is with Paul Davis (Social Networking Safety) on Thursday May 14th at 7:30pm. To receive the link you must to RSVP to womparents@gmail.com by May 13. (The link will not be posted online)

The topics covered in this session include:

  • The Three Pillars of Online Safety
  • Current News in Calgary and surrounding areas (online luring)
  • When to get a phone
  • No social media until 13yrs
  • No tech in private areas
  • Sharenting
  • Where Alpha should be online (if and when parents are ready)

This event is being partially funded by the ASCE grant to support parent education. As part of this event the council is also paying for the student portion of Paul's presentation. This is a recorded presentation for Grade 4-6 students and will be shared with them at school on or before May 14th

Playground Fundraising - Bottle Drive May 19-22

Upcoming Bottle Drive: W.O. Mitchell School Council will be collecting bottles and cans from May 19–22, following the May long weekend. We invite families to consider donating their refundable items in support of our Playground Fundraising Campaign. A trailer will be on-site at the school to accept donations.

Donate directly to W.O. Mitchell Playground Fundraising Campaign. EducationMatters will issue donations receipts for donations of $20 or more.

Traffic Safety Reminder

Please help keep students safe by observing crosswalks, parking rules, and speed limits near the school. Drop-off and pick-up times can be busy, so consider parking a block or two away and walking in. Review safe travel practices with your children, such as using crosswalks and looking both ways before crossing.
