Fun Lunches
Fun lunches are offered throughout the year to students who wish to participate. We receive our lunches through Healthy Hunger, an online platform that delivers pre-ordered lunches to the school in which a portion of the proceeds goes to the school.
On the day of the event, lunches are sorted and delivered to your child’s classroom by parent volunteers. If you would like to participate, please register your child at www.healthyhunger.ca . Lunches must be ordered prior to midnight, 5 days before the fun lunch event.
We kindly ask that if your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please contact the school prior to 10:30am, if you wish to pick it up the same day, after 1:30pm. If not specified, your food will be donated to someone in need of lunch. No refunds will be issued if your child is absent on the day of a Fun Lunch.
If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to parent support at www.healthyhunger.ca
Holiday Christmas Hampers for W.O. Mitchell Families in Need
As we enter the holiday season, W.O. Mitchell School is once again preparing Holiday Hampers to support families in our community.
This year, we kindly ask for gift card donations to a local grocery store or Chapters/Indigo. All donations will be shared confidentially and anonymously with families in need.
If your family would benefit from a holiday hamper, please contact Sra. Moreau or Sr. Scott for confidential support.
If you are able to contribute, please drop off gift cards at the main office before Wednesday, December 17.
Thank you for your continued generosity and care for the W.O. Mitchell School community.
Traffic Safety from the City of Calgary
Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.
The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.
Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.
Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Levanta tu bandera | Artists in Residence with Paloma Negra La Aventurera, May 2025
Connecting students with musicians adds tremendous learning opportunities, particularly when it bridges students to sounds and languages beyond their local communities. In this residency, W. O. Mitchell students harnessed their Spanish language skills and creativity to compose a song with award winning artists, Paloma Negra, Fredy Rivas, and Jonathan Martínez. Together, they generated lyrics that expressed an expansive view of family that is built on bonds of commitment, love, and shared life experiences. The music video, Levanta tu bandera, captures the vibrancy of this learning experience.
The video has been posted to the School Showcase:https://womitchell.cbe.ab.ca/school-showcase
