Celebrating our Spring Concert

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Spring Concert on April 15. Our students took to the stage with confidence, energy, and enthusiasm, demonstrating their musical abilities along with their courage, growth, and commitment to excellence. We are incredibly proud of each of them.

This event was made possible through the exceptional commitment of our parent volunteers, who dedicated countless hours to organizing, planning, building sets, creating props, and supporting both the setup and takedown of the production. Their contributions continue to play an essential role in creating meaningful learning experiences for our students.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Sra. Anne Grey for her dedication and passion in fostering a love of Music Education and the Spanish Language within our school community.

Día del Libro (World Book Day) | April 23

We are excited to celebrate Día del Libro (World Book Day) at W. O. Mitchell on April 23, 2026. Organized by UNESCO and widely observed in Spain and across Latin America, Día del Libro promotes reading and access to books for all. The date is especially meaningful in the literary world, marking the passing of renowned authors such as Cervantes, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, P.L. Travers, and William Shakespeare. Students will participate in a full day of literacy-focused activities that include a school-wide assembly, classroom-based experiences, a book swap, a visit to the Scholastic Book Fair, and, finally, a photography exhibition featuring the work of every student at WOM.

Photography Exhibition in the Gymnasium | April 23

This year’s celebration will be especially meaningful, as it will showcase a photography exhibition in the gymnasium, representing the culmination of student work developed throughout the art residency with Janet Pliszka. Teachers have intentionally leveraged this creative process to advance our commitment to land-based learning, exploring themes of place, interconnection, and belonging. Furthermore, teachers have strengthened students’ Spanish language development supporting oral language growth through authentic, experience-based learning. Students are excited to share the stories behind their photographs with you during the exhibition at the following times:

  • Kindergarten–Grade 2: 4:00–4:30 pm
  • Grades 3–6: 4:30–5:00 pm
  • After-School Pick-Up: Same as usual; students must be under the supervision of their parents/guardians throughout the duration of the event (3:50-5pm)
